Westminster Abbey is looking to recruit Visitor Experience Assistants to work during our busy Summer season (May-September), to assist in meeting and greeting visitors, in a positive, engaging manner, ensuring a warm Abbey welcome is offered at all times. You will be responsible for offering media guides to visitors, and helping to collect them at the end of their visit.
You will also ensure that media guides are not removed from the Abbey and that they are cleaned and charged appropriately, checked for any faults and that they are ready for the start of each day. This is a frontline, customer focused role that will require you to provide excellent customer service within a busy, often demanding setting.
Working Hours
The full‑time equivalent is 35 hours per week. This role has minimum hours of 21 hours per month, with working days scheduled across seven days per week.
Annual Holiday Entitlement
The full‑time holiday entitlement is 33 days per annum, inclusive of recognised public holidays.
Training
Comprehensive on‑site training will be provided in all aspects of the role. Any additional training needs will be identified during the probation period and through annual appraisals.
Pension Scheme and Life Assurance
All employees may join the Group Personal Pension Plan, with a minimum employee contribution of 3% and a maximum employer contribution of 9%, depending on the employee’s contribution level. Eligible employees will be automatically enrolled in the workplace pension scheme after three months’ service.
All employees are also covered by death‑in‑service life assurance, regardless of whether they choose to join the pension scheme.
Staff Discount
All employees receive a 20% discount on purchases from the Westminster Abbey shop and a 30% discount on purchases from the Benugo outlets, which serve refreshments.
Season Ticket Loan
A season ticket loan is offered after completion of a probationary period, repayable over 10 months.
Medical Insurance
The Abbey will pay 50% of premiums to join a nominated medical insurance scheme after one year’s employment.
Uniform
If a uniform and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, they must be worn at all times.
Safeguarding
Westminster Abbey is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk. To prevent them from harm, we undertake appropriate checks on staff and volunteers and require them to complete relevant safeguarding training. Offers are subject to a Basic level of criminal record check, receipt of references satisfactory to Westminster Abbey, right to work in the UK, proof of professional qualifications and medical clearance, which may include a medical assessment from the Abbey doctor.
